Discover Our Lakes : Your Local Guide
We live it, you’ll love it
Raymond Island & the Koalas
5 minutes from the resort on foot. The flat-bottom ferry crosses the McMillan Strait to Raymond Island, home to one of Australia's healthiest wild koala populations. Walk or cycle the Koala Trail (bring your camera), and keep an eye out for echidnas and kangaroos. The ferry is free for pedestrians and cyclists. Go early morning for the best sightings.
The Paynesville Esplanade
5 to 10 minute walk along the foreshore. The Paynesville Esplanade is the waterfront heart of town, with cafés, a bakery worth planning your morning around, fish and chips by the water, and boats coming and going all day.
Fishing the Lakes
The Gippsland Lakes are one of Victoria's great fisheries bream, flathead, tailor and more. Fish from our private jetty, hire a boat in town, or book a local charter. Clean your catch at the resort's fish cleaning station and cook it on the BBQ that evening.
Silt Jetties & Mitchell River
Just past Eagle Point, the Mitchell River silt jetties are among the longest in the world a remarkable drive or ride with water on both sides. One of East Gippsland's quiet wonders.
Ninety Mile Beach
Forty minutes from the resort, one of the longest uninterrupted beaches on earth. Wild, beautiful and often almost empty the perfect day-trip contrast to the calm of the lakes.
Eat & Drink Local
15 minutes by car to Bairnsdale. From Paynesville's waterfront cafés to Bairnsdale's growing food scene and East Gippsland's wineries, ask our team for this week's recommendations. We live here; we know where the good coffee is.
